INFRA RED SENSOR OPERATION
The infrared sensor detects vehicles, people and animals by sensing the object’s infrared heat and motion. When someone or something moves through the detection zones, the sensor detects the difference in temperature of the moving object and the background. The sensor then transmits a high frequency radio signal to the receiver.
The infrared detector is mounted behind the round lens. It has a horizontal detection angle of 40 degrees. The effective detection range of the sensor is from 0 feet to 30 feet, depending on the objects size, speed and other factors.
INFRA RED SENSOR INSTALLATION
Open the battery compartment on the lower part of the back of the sensor box by pushing down and out on the grooved area. Install a high quality 9 volt battery in the holder and securely close the battery hatch.
Mount the sensor approximately 2-2 1/2 feet above the ground (or as required) to a tree, wooden post or side of a building. The sensor/transmitter can be mounted to many different surfaces in a variety of ways but must be stable. The lens must have an unobstructed view of the coverage area. Extend the flexible antenna upward. Some objects may not be detected if the sensor is placed too high or too low. Adjusting may be required prior to calling technical support. Keep the sensor approximately 10 feet from the target.
The sensor should be strategically located so that it detects objects moving across the detection zone. Mounting the sensor so that objects are moving at or away from the sensor will result in poor performance. Do not mount the sensor facing the sun, bodies of water or any reflections.. This causes variations in the temperature pattern “seen” by the sensor and may cause false alarms.
PLEASE NOTE: A shorter transmission range may occur when the outside temperature is below 20 degrees F. This is due to a natural drop in battery voltage. Low sensitivity may occur during periods of fog or rain. This is due to the moisture diffusing the infrared energy.
PORTABLE RECEIVER OPERATION
The receiver can stand up or clip to a belt. To utilize the belt clip as a stand see the instructions molded into the belt clip on the back of the receiver. Prior to opening battery compartment the belt clip must be placed into the stand up position.
Open the battery compartment on the lower part of the back of the sensor box by pushing down and out on the grooved area. Install a high quality 9 volt battery in the holder and securely close the battery hatch. The battery will last up to 30 days while in the standby mode. Battery life decreases based on the transmissions received and the receiver response settings (tone or vibrate). For best results use fresh, new batteries. When the battery voltage decreases to the point that the receiver will not operate, the green L.E.D. will flash once every 5 seconds.
Turn the receiver on by moving switch from “off” to “tone” or “vibrate”. The receiver will sound an alert tone and the green L.E.D. will turn on when activated by the sensor. It will continue to sound as long as objects are moving in the detection field of the sensor. Due to the energy saving features built into the receiver you may notice a very slight delay between a detected event and receiver activation. A transformer is available as an option to operate the receiver on 110 volt household current. Only use the transformer available from Miltronics. Use of any other transformer may cause damage to your receiver and void your warranty.
In unobstructed space, the reception range is typically up to 2500 feet. Range is reduced by metallic objects, earth, water, walls, buildings, trees, woods, etc. For best results, keep the receiver in an area with some direct visibility to the sensor.

CODING ADJUSTMENT
The system coding is factory preset and should be adjusted only in the event of interference from another source. A DIP switch is located in each the sensor and receiver. Only the first five positions on the switches can be changed and the switch settings in the transmitter must match the settings in the receiver.
TROUBLESHOOTING
As with all passive infrared devices (PIR), from time to time certain weather conditions and other acts of nature can cause false alarms or lack of sensitivity. The following sections will explain how to minimize problems.
